Christopher Matthews
Employee of the Month - April 2012
Christopher Matthews began his employment with Delaware county as a
seasonal laborer at the Department of Public Works during the summers of
1998, 1999 and 2000. In January 2001, Chris worked at DPW as a Temporary
Engineering Aide. On July 31, 2001, Chris was appointed GIS Technician for
the Planning Department and also began serving as a per diem Corrections Officer on December 22, 2001. On
September 14, 2003, Chris chose to make a career change and accepted a full-time position as Correction
Officer.
Corrections Officer Matthews was assigned to the Monitoring System in the Correction Facility’s Control
Room. He also served in the intake area booking in prisoners and was sometimes called upon to serve as
Officer-in-Charge during his shift.
Chris has been an active member of the Delhi Fire Department. He is classified as a Class A Interior Firefighter
and serves on the Rapid Intervention Team, including work atop the aerial ladder.
Chris made an another career change on December 4, 2012, at which time he resigned his position. We
recognize his past accomplishments and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
VISITORS
Each year thousands of visitors enter the Delaware County
Public Safety Building and Correctional Facility for reasons other
than detainment. Many attend meetings here.
The Multi-Purpose Room was designed for use as an
Emergency Operations Center, but when not in use as such, it
doubles as a both a training room and a large meeting room that can
be divided to accommodate two groups simultaneously. The rooms
are in great demand and are scheduled for use almost every business
day and many evenings.
TOURS
The Sheriff’s Office hosts many facility tours each year for youth groups,
clubs, schools, government officials, candidates for employment and the
curious.
