Re: 2012 Annual Report
“A Year of Changes”
2012 will be remembered as being the year of substantial changes. It was so primarily because of the
retirement of four long-tenured employees (listed on page 6) whose presence over the years had been very
influential. Fortunately, they were replaced by those having considerable training, experience and dedication.
Although tasks were completed without interruption, there is always a subtle change in the atmosphere
whenever participants change. While we appreciate the substantial contributions made by our retiring
employees, we are in equal measure very pleased knowing they will have an opportunity to spend more quality
time with their families and engage in hobbies that may have eluded them throughout their careers. Their
replacements are ready to implement new methodology and experience consequential challenges, pitfalls and
victories alike. We cheer them on and are proud of their commitment, drive and enthusiasm.
For the first time in many years, the Sheriff’s Office provided an equestrian presence at the Delaware
County Fair. Undersheriff DuMond and his handsome steed Irish Chameleon (a/k/a “Romeo”) represented our
Office with pride and verve. In direct opposition to the Sheriff’s horse of yesteryear was our acquisition of two
free surplus Humvees this year. The Humvees will be used for many applications, such as: finding lost hikers,
performing rescues from remote regions and accessing hidden crops of marihuana in desolate areas not easily
reached by automobile.
Also, for a change there were more female students enrolled in our correction academy than men.
The work wheel keeps turning and we all experience the changes, both individually and as a team. Yes,
2012, was the year in which new possibilities were explored and many changes were implemented.
Very truly yours,
DELAWARE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
