Seasoned area Law Enforcement Officer
will replace retiring Delaware County Undersheriff
Masonville Town Supervisor and veteran law enforcement officer Craig DuMond will soon become the
Undersheriff of Delaware County, replacing Undersheriff Douglas “Doug” Vredenburgh who has announced
his plans to retire effective at the close of business on March 2, 2012.
Craig DuMond brings extensive administrative and field experience to the office, earned by assuming
a variety of law enforcement-related titles and responsibilities. He is in command at the Henry Johnson Youth
Leadership Academy in South Kortright and has served as a part-time patrol officer with the Village of Walton
Police Department since 1990.
Sheriff Mills noted, “I appointed Doug Vredenburgh as my Undersheriff when I first assumed the role
of Sheriff in 1999. We had both retired, after serving with the New York State Police.” While Undersheriff,
Vredenburgh served as the Supervisor of the Delaware County Drug Enforcement Unit when it was organized
and also was chosen to lead the 4-person Transition Team that worked in conjunction with the Architect and
