JOHN DEMEO

Delaware County Employee of the Month
August 2015

John Demeo began his career in law enforcement as a Delaware County Corrections Officer from 2002 – 2005.  He was a Sergeant in the Youth Leadership Academy from 2005 to 2008 and served as a Police Officer for the Walton Police Department until he returned to County service.

John joined the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on September 16, 2012 as a full-time Sheriff’s Deputy.  As a result of the high quality, quantity and dedication of his work, John was promoted to Sergeant on September 14, 2014.

Sergeant Demeo has proven himself to be an extremely loyal, dedicated employee and supervisor who ensures that the integrity and professionalism of the Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division and the quality of its service to the community are maintained.  John shares supervision of the Criminal Investigation Division with Senior Investigator Karl Vagts.  John has earned the highest respect of his supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, County officials, other law enforcement agencies and everyone throughout the area with whom he has worked.

John’s devotion to duty is a quality rarely seen today. Around the clock, he makes himself available to the Sheriff’s Office and his colleagues in the law enforcement field.  John has received several commendations from other law enforcement agencies attesting to his above and beyond commitment to “serve and protect”.

John volunteered to take on the added responsibility of implementing the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit.  John’s hard work and commitment to this effort were recognized when he was honored at his Canine Patrol School graduation with the “Best Green Handler” award. John has become a well-respected member of the Police K9 community and is often called upon for his expertise in the field.  John’s work focuses on drug interdiction and tracking missing persons.

John’s unrelenting energy, loyalty and determination have been instrumental in the increased number of drug arrests by the Sheriff’s Office.  His diligence, quality of work and ability to communicate effectively with everyone he deals with is truly commendable.

What John likes most about his job is the versatility of assignments and the opportunity to work with neighboring law enforcement agencies to broaden boundaries and thereby produce more significant results.  He also greatly appreciates receiving the training and tools he has been given to help him do his job.

As stated by Sheriff Mills, “John is a team player and defines the attributes of loyalty and devotion to duty.  I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of this award.”

Congratulations and thank you, John, for a job well done.
